Are you looking for a great read this summer? I have the perfect book for you.
Escaping the Giant Wave by. Peg Kehret
The story is centered on a 13 year old boy named Kyle, his sister BeeBee, and their family's summer vacation. Kyle, who lives in Kansas, and has never flown or seen the Pacific Ocean, couldn't be more thrilled for the trip to Oregon.
However, when the trip finally comes, things don't exactly go as planned. The first big obstacle shows in the character Darren, the school bully, who shows up on the vacation. Will Kyle deal with him like he has always wanted to? Or will he pretend to get along with him for his parents sake?
The obstacles continue, when Kyle is left one evening to babysit his sister at the hotel, while his parents go on a dinner cruise. An earthquake, fire, and tsunami soon turn the evening into one that Kyle will never forget. Kyle has to make some tough decisions to try and survive the night with his sister. Does he stay put in the hotel like his parents asked? Does he listen to the sign they read down by the water or to the people who are hanging out? And if they survive the night, what will be left for them when the sun comes up? Will they ever see their parents again?
If you like books that leave you wanting more at the end of each chapter, this book is definitely one to check out.
