Hello there, I thought I would take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself.
Background:
I was born in the Midwest in a town along Lake Michigan called Michigan City, Indiana, not far from Chicago, Illinois. Though a person can only have one home town, I was blessed (if you can call it that) to move A LOT in my life, so I have called quite a few places home. I spent my younger years playing where the corn grows tall, summers meant chasing lightning bugs, and a trip into Chicago was just a train ride away. We moved to Country Club Hills and Lansing, Illinois during this time, before heading south to Florida.
We spent 4 years there in Florida, where I was able to finish up high school. I graduated from Riverview High School, outside of Tampa, Florida where I played varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball. It was here that I got the opportunity to experience a once in a lifetime event, being a member of a State Championship softball team. Definitely something I will never forget!
After high school, I went on to attend Tusculum College, in Greeneville, Tennessee. It was a very small college, that is uniquely set-up to have you take one class at a time, and it is there that I played volleyball for 2 years, was a student assistant coach for 2 years and graduated with an Education degree. (Seeing as both my parents are in education and my brother joined the field, as well, you could say I joined the "family business.") While I was in college my family moved to Slidell, Louisiana, LasVegas,Nevada, and South Bend, Indiana. Like I said at the beginning, I moved A LOT!!!
After graduation in December 2005, I spent some time working at a teachers store back home with my parents in Indiana, before getting a job to start my teaching career in Florida at Summerfield Elementary. I started as a 4th grade teacher that taught all subjects for 2 years, before moving up to 5th grade where I have stayed for the last 8 years. During that time, I taught all subjects, but have really grown to love and focus in on Reading,Writing and Social Studies. After 9 years in Florida, my life took me to Joy James Elementary, in Fort Worth, Texas where I teach 5th grade ELA and Social Studies now. I am now in my 13th year of teaching.
Interests:
I LOVE sports (whether watching or playing), reading books, watching movies, being outside, camping, kayaking, going to the beach, spending time with my family, going to concerts, and shows, and I am a bit of a TV junkie, too. I love to travel and have visited New York City, Canada, Niagara Falls, Iowa (to see the Field of Dreams)Key West, Savannah, New Orleans, to name a few, along with my latest trip to Hawaii this past Spring Break, and a list of many more places after that. I have recently developed a love for Bingo and Trivia, as well. The Chicago Cubs are my favorite baseball team, and the Packers are my favorite football team. I have a cat named Callie Mae, who is about to be 11 years old and is known to take over laps the minute you sit down. My family is a big part of my life and I love spending time with my niece Reagan, who will soon be 2 and Abigail, who was born this past July.
